What is the Three Peaks Challenge?
The Jones FM team decided that 2017 was the year they participated in the Three Peaks Challenge. The premise of this challenge is that you must climb the three highest peaks in England, Scotland, and Wales in 24 hours.
We flew out to Glasgow on Friday 8th September, to begin our challenge at Ben Nevis on Saturday at 11.00am. We then drove to Scafell Pike in Cumbria where we had to climb up and descend the mountain in the night. Then we made our final trip of the challenge to Snowdon, where we were hit with 50 mph wind and rain but finished our climb at 11.00am.
The cause Jones FM are raising funds for
Now I am sure this is not the type of activity the Jones FM team would be expected to normally do in their spare time, however, they decided they had to act for a young boy they met called Toby. Toby is five years old, and he has a rare syndrome called pallifter-killian. This syndrome means that for Toby to have a bike it needs to be bespoke made to fit his needs, so the Jones FM team decided to put themselves through the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge to raise the funds to get Toby a bike so he can play out with his sibling.
Did we make it?
We did, (just). Between us, we have quite a few blistered feet, swollen ankles and knees which may never be the same again but we did it! I must say that if it weren’t for the good humour and team spirit I’m not sure we would have been able to pull through it. You would have thought there would have been some kind of warning that climbing three mountains in 24 hours was going to be tougher than we expected. But it was all worth it for such a worthwhile cause and we all cannot wait to see Toby enjoying his new bike.
I want to take this time to say thank you to everyone who donated and I can now happily announce that we have raised close to £3,000 for our #bikefortoby. We are inching closer and closer to our target, so any further donations would be greatly appreciated. In case you didn’t know the website to donate is: www.gofundme.com/bikefortoby
